Civics fear traffic jams during Alley Pond sewer work
At the meeting, Department of Environmental Protection representatives presented an overview of the project, designed to eliminate street flooding that currently occurs during rainstorms
Marraffini stressed that the Department of Environmental Protection would restore the greenery it has displaced during the project.
"There is not only replanting of vegetation but creating new wetlands" in Alley Park, he said. He pointed out that the wetlands will not be a park and no trails will be built.
The other hot topic discussed was the proposed six-story Douglaston Apartments complex to be built at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Douglaston Parkway.
Of particular concern was the attached three-story parking garage. Douglaston Civic Association members voiced their opposition to the entire project and voted to have the developer's lawyer come to the next meeting to speak to residents.
