Gregg’s Tire & Auto Royals had their opening day game April 18 against Ideal Barbers Seals.
The Royals were led by Johnny Martini, who had a grand slam; and Marcus Choon and Devin Gugliemetti, who each had a double and two singles; and Michael Hovi, Zachary Pournazari, Issac Peltzer and Christian Mendoza each went 3-for-3 with hard hits.
J.C. Gallagher, Ryan Badalamenti and Neeloy Azad kept the hard hitting going with two hits each.
Not only were the Royals’ bats on fire but they had some great fielding.
After making nice stops by Michael Epstein and Andrew Farella, they each threw two batters out at first. James Sciortino Jr. made two plays at second, getting the runners out at second.
And Rishi Durjan made a great catch at third and also got a runner out at third. It looks like Gregg’s Tire & Auto Royals are all tuned up for a great season.
Kids Inc. Expos 9, Tomahawks 3. The Kidz Inc. Expos defeated the Tomahawks at the Oval in Glen Oaks May 5. As was the case in the first game the two teams played, this was a great game to watch.
The Expos’ offense was back after an absence of two games. Nick Calandra, Luis Perez, Rohan Shah, Suboor Khan and Sean Brodersen paced the offense throughout the game with key hits, walks and stolen bases.
The defense of Billy Burkart, Jimmy Curran, Michael Vessia, Josh Persaud, Robert Groth, Raymond Rybak and Rahul Kadakia (who made a fantastic heads-up play at second) played remarkably and made several great plays.
The pitching of Rohan Shah and Nick Calandra (who struck out seven in three innings of work) was awesome. Versatile Sean Brodersen has turned into a tremendous catcher, keeping the opposing team from running wild and helping the pitchers.
Luis Perez and Rahul Kadakia received the game balls.
The Tomahawks have a very good team and the Expos enjoy playing them. The first game together resulted in a 7-7 tie.
+The next game is May 12 at 6 p.m. against the Braves at the Oval.
