LONG ISLAND CITY — Nassau County Police arrested a Long Island City High School teacher Tuesday after he allegedly maintained a yearlong affair with an 11th-grade student at Aviation High School where he teaches, authorities said.
Manhasset native George Zanetis, 42, was arrested just before 9 p.m. in Bellmore, L.I. by Nassau County police and charged with third-degree rape in connection with the alleged affair, authorities said.
The student, whose name was not released, and Zanetis had been involved since August 2003 and the first encounter took place inside the teacher’s parked car at Jones Beach, Nassau County Police said.
Zanetis was set to be arraigned Wednesday in District Court in Hempstead.
