When the dust cleared on the 2004 season, the 6-foot-5, 240-pound giant from Floral Park enjoyed one of the best seasons in the celebrated history of Molloy baseball.
Headed to Manhattan College, where he will reunite with former Stanner teammate Nick Derba, Rizzotti was feared both on the mound and at the plate.
And he wasn’t too shabby at first base either.
Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 46th round of the Major League Draft (1,376th overall), Rizzotti batted .512, had a slugging percentage of 1.250, an on base percentage of .664, hit six doubles, four triples and broke the long-standing Molloy single-season school record with 15 home runs while driving in 52 RBIs.
In the playoffs Rizzotti was intentionally walked four times in his last two games and was hit by a pitch in his last at-bat.
On the mound Rizzotti was one of the best in the league, going 6-2 with a 3.06 earned run average, striking out 76 in 52 innings.
