FLUSHING – Commuters on the Long Island Rail Road from Manhattan and Long Island were held up in both directions on the Port Washington line during the morning rush hour Wednesday because of a track fire.
The fire broke out on the tracks west of the Broadway stop shortly after 8 a.m. and firefighters were called to the scene, the conductor on a stopped eastbound LIRR train from Manhattan told riders. He said trains were halted on both eastbound and westbound tracks.
Eastbound service resumed at about 8:30 a.m.
