Police find 18-year-old shot outside Corona bridal shop

By James DeWeese

Police discovered Joaquin Flores on the street in front of the Josefina Bridal Shop at 104-39 Roosevelt Ave. around 4 a.m. with gunshot wounds in his left arm and chest, police said.

Flores was rushed to nearby Elmhurst Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival around 4:40 a.m., a spokeswoman for the hospital said.

Police have made no arrests and were continuing to investigate.

According to police crime statistics, there were no recorded murders in the 115th Precinct, which covers the areas where Flores was found, through May 23.

But Fernando Rodriguez, 20, was the victim of a gang-style beating at Northern Boulevard and 70th Street May 22 and later died, police and hospital officials said.

If Flores' and Rodriguez's deaths are ruled homicides, Sunday's shooting will be the second murder in the 115th Precinct this year.
