Quantam Feet 5K run set for Fresh Meadows

The fifth annual Quantum Feet 5K run/walk and Children’s Fun Run is set for June 13 in Fresh Meadows, starting at 9 a.m. Race Director Dominic Ortiz expects 200 runners, including some top runners from the area, to test a challenging course that star

The race goes through the three-lined residential streets of Fresh Meadows and on to the Cunningham Park Green Belt Trail. The 3.1-mile course takes the runners, who receive split times at every mile, about two miles into the park.

There will be two water stops on the course, which is basically flat with a slight incline.

Ian Gray holds the men’s course record, 15:58 set in 2002 while Tyneka Green holds the women’s course record of 19:25, set in 2001.

Other winners include Jacobo Perez and Mary Bogle in 2003, Susan Mena in 2002, Panfilo Gomez in 2001 and Julio Chuqui and Theresa Juva in 2000.

“The people will be there to enjoy the race and have fun,” Ortiz said. “We’ll have a competitive field. I want to see happy faces and everyone having a good time.”

The Quantum Feet face is the third of the Queens Grand Prix Series and will be followed by the Hellgate 5K in Astoria June 19 and the Gabe Vitale 5K July 10 in College Point.

The Quantum Feet 5K run/walk and Children’s Fun Run will benefit the Steppingstone Day School of Flushing, for children with disabilities. In Steppingstone’s nurturing child centered environment, children are encouraged to believe in themselves and are motivated to reach their full potential.
