Three elegant ladies sing in Town Hall jazz finale

By J. Davis

Brown brought laughter to the audience with her double entendre “Kitchen Man.” The petite Crosby gave heart to “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” the song made famous by Ethel Waters, and the trio joined for a rousing “You've Got a Friend.” For an encore, Garrett rendered “It Isn't Easy to be Green” to an interested audience.

The blues were represented by numbers such as “Some of My Best Friends are the Blues” and “Ain't Nobody's Business.” “Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out” was an audience sing-along. As daughters of preachers and a deacon, the ladies rocked the house with “Ain't no Mountain High Enough.”

Backing the singers with verve were musical director and pianist Toyo, Steve Williams on drums and Jeff Anderson on bass.

Clyde Bullard, producer of these shows, announced that the nex jazz series will be presented at Flushing Town Hall in October.
