Alex Dobrin followed a bizarre semifinal win over close friend and defending PSAL champion Ari Gayer to beat Cardozo teammate Jae Yoon to win the individual crown Friday at Queens College, 6-2, 6-4.
Dobrin, who played in his third straight title match, advanced after Gayer, a junior at Townsend Harris, forfeited last Thursday after breaking the strings on two rackets and not feeling comfortable with Dobrin’s loaner racket.
Cardozo’s double team of Steven Nieman and David Chen also were crowned city champs, defeating Stuyvesant’s duo of Theodore Jurlaco and Sean Roker, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8).
Cardozo is also home to the girls’ doubles champs as Vivian Cheung and Nicole Haynal defeated Townsend Harris’ Christina Tsirikas and Chantal Bruno, 7-5, 6-3.
