Aisha Napoleon-Davis, 27, of East Elmhurst told police that she torched her husband April 3 to fend off what she said was a drunken sexual advance. In a written statement to the police, she said her husband, Clifford Davis, had been abusive to her since they met in the Bronx when she was 13.Davis declined to testify at the trial.Prosecutors said Davis told them he was too drunk to remember exactly what had happened inside the couple's Curtis Street home the evening of April 3, according to a spokeswoman for Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.Davis, who suffered third-degree burns over much of his body, was so drunk the night of the incident that he went to bed after the attack, according to court documents and law enforcement sources. He did not seek medical treatment until the following morning. As part of last week's plea deal, Napoleon-Davis will serve a year of unsupervised parole. Provided she has no brushes with the law during that period, she will remain free.Napoleon-Davis could have faced up to 25 years in jail if she had been convicted of the first- and second-degree assault charges against her.Davis was burned over 37 percent of his body in the attack, including his genitals.Davis initially said nothing to police, and the crime was not reported until almost two weeks later, when Napoleon-Davis was arrested, police said.”The next day he said he was going to the hospital and not to worry about it, he will handle it,” Napoleon-Davis told police when she was arrested.Davis eventually testified before a grand jury but then refused to appear at his wife's trial. After refusing to testify, Davis apparently skipped town. “He told the assistant district attorney he was leaving New York and has never been heard from again,” the DA's spokeswoman said.Reach reporter James DeWeese by e-mail at news@timesledger.com, or call 718-229-0300, Ext. 157.
