We visited the New York Hall of Science, which was great, instructional and recreational. This summer's exhibition, “The Sports Challenge,” brings the best of sports and business partnerships together. Baseball fans at Shea Stadium will be exposed to messages regarding “The Sports Challenge.” It is for children of all ages to understand the scientific forces in play that make up the games we love.This exhibition offers pitching, rock climbing, surfing or dunking and basketball. Children will discover science through physical activity. There were 10 school buses of children when I arrived and they were all participating along with my grandchildren. They also had some very interesting molecule exhibits, sponsored by the Pfizer Corp., that the children had to work on.It was wonderful celebrating my birthday with family and my maid of honor, Kay, at the fantastic Caffe on the Green. It was built by Rudolph Valentino and later purchased by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia and then by Supreme Court Justice Alpert Sanders. In 1989 Caffe on the Green obtained the property and it underwent a two-year extensive restoration. It is one of New York's outstanding restaurants and named one of the five best restaurants in New York. Of course, it is encircled with the most beautiful flowers that beautify the entire area. Joseph Franco is superb and keeps everything excellent, including my beautiful birthday cake.The Poppenhusen Institute sponsored the Phil Costa and the Something Special Orchestra, which performed the sounds of the big bands at the park, an outstanding ending with each special song for each armed forces group. The First Reformed Church of College Point on 14th Avenue and 119th Street will be holding its ice cream social and dog show on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sabina Says … Half of the summer has whizzed by, so make sure you do all those enjoyable things with your family that are left to do. I agree with Councilman Anthony Avella, who has introduced legislation that would strengthen landmark laws.
