Annual Event Honors Top Businesswomen

Queens Business Today and The Queens Courier will be presenting the Top 10 Women In Business Networking and Awards Event on April 7th at the Terrace on the Park. The honorees encompass a wide range of Queens women from all walks of life; from hospital administrators and doctors, to community outreach program organizers and bank officers. In addition to the Top 10 Women honorees, six other women prominent for their work in Queens will be the recipients of various community awards.
Honorees include Alice Ficalora, Eileen A. Auld, Mary Godfrey, Dr. Mary Margaret Kemeny, Gayle Baron, Nancy Yieh, Dr. Leslee Mavrovic, Stefanie F. Handsman, Robbyn Stewart and Carole T. Phillips. Recipients of special awards are Dr. Sandra Delson-Deutsch, Nayibe Nunez Berger, Joan Barnes, Mabel Law, Ann Buehler and Anna Kril.
The annual event was instituted in 2003 to honor the most prestigious and influential businesswomen each year, who make major contributions to the business community of Queens. Money raised at the first awards ceremony was donated to the Freedom Tree Memorial Fund. The money helped to plant trees in parks boroughwide as a living memorial to those who passed away in the World Trade Center terrorists attacks.
This year, in addition to the awards event, a silent auction will be held during the dinner to benefit the School for Language and Communication Development (SLCD).
SLCD is a not-for-profit school based in Glen Cove, operating under the precept “Language Learning for Lifelong Success.” The school is committed to providing aid and support to children with language disorders. The school’s programs are focused on helping students develop goals through participation in activities that foster the improvement of their language skills. The donations accrued from the auction will be used to help the school expand and acquire new computers and interactive software and practical educational supplies. In particular, the school hopes to purchase a speech software program called Earobics, a program designed to provide students with fundamental literacy and language skills.
Co-sponsors of the event include Dr. William O. Benenson Rehabilitation Pavilion and the Flushing Manors, Bombardier, Citibank, Con Edison, Commerce Bank, MTM Printing, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York Hospital Queens, Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care & Rehabilitation, Queens Center Mall, Queens County Savings Bank, Queens Hospital Center, State Bank of Long Island and Townsend Glass.
