X-Treme Prom Winner Loves ‘Princess’ Treatment

The Queens Courier “X-treme Prom Contest” winner Vicky Stithos enjoyed a magical evening on Wednesday, June 8, as she attended her high school prom.
The goal of the contest was to recognize an area student who is dedicated to the community and who also needed financial help with the expenses of prom night. Stithos, who is a senior at Robert F. Kennedy High School, volunteers for the Macedonia Day Care Center.
With the help of sponsors such as Christie & Co. Salon & Spa, Estelle’s Dressy Dresses, Murphy’s Florist, Azure Lingerie and Love My Shoes, Stithos received a host of prom essentials such as a dress, shoes, corsage and hair-do.
“It gives Christie and Company great pleasure to assist in making this a ‘prom night’ to remember for Vicky,” said Lois Christie, owner of Christie & Co. Salon & Spa in Bayside. “Our staff is proud and pleased to help ‘dreams come true’.”
“I love making up the corsages. It’s such a special night for them,” said sponsor Nancy Murphy, owner of Murphy’s Florist. “It’s my favorite thing — making prom corsages.”
The magical evening, which was held at Leonard’s with the theme “Here’s to the Night,” was a dream come true for Stithos.
“Everything was the way I pictured it to be,” she said. “I enjoyed it. Everything was so nice. I felt like a princess.”
All of Stithos’ friends were excited to see what she looked like after selecting a dress and getting her hair done.
“Everyone kept complimenting me so I was really happy,” Stithos said.
Stithos’ mother also liked her daughter’s prom look.
“She loved me. She was really happy for me to see how happy I was,” she said. “Everyone was happy for me when I walked down the hall.”
Even though she was sick the day of prom, Stithos still had a wonderful evening surrounded by friends.
“I had a lot of fun with my friends,” Stithos said. “We made the best of it. We’re like a family and we all made it really fun.”
