While Christ the King returns one of the ‘AA' division's top talents in the N.C. State-bound guard Larry Davis, they had to deal with losing four of five starters, including their starting backcourt of Niko Scott and Chris Martin.
Last year's productive bench have now become starters. 6-foot-5 center Andrew Gabriel, who started seven games because of injury, forward Rob Hampton and guards Darren Duncan and defensive-minded Malik Boothe will play a more prominent role.
Boothe, coming off an injury-plagued sophomore season, will rotate at the point with Duncan and sophomore sensation Erving Walker. Walker, a 5-foot-6 point guard, who Coach Bob Oliva said had “probably the best freshman year of any guard I can remember,” referring to his championship season on the freshman team, is considered one of the top players in the class of 2008. The combo of Walker and Boothe is small, but as quick as any tandem around.
