Job: David Kramer has been a member of Community Board 11 for four years.
He was appointed for the position when he was at Borough Hall, and told Borough President Helen Marshall, whom he worked with when he served a term on the New York State Assembly, he was interested in helping out the community.
Prior to that, he worked for 35 years as a proofreader and typographer for The New York Times before retiring in 2001. He also served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal.
Reward of the Job: “If I can help to improve the community, then I'm doing my job,” said Kramer, who is involved in several committees, including the senior citizens committee.
Kramer said he was most intrigued with the zoning and neighborhood problems; for instance, the over saturation of bars on Bell Boulevard concerns him.
As for his time with The New York Times, Kramer said, “the people were very nice, and I enjoyed my stay there.”
