Community Star Of Queens Dr. Thomas Jackson

Affiliations: For about 10 years, Dr. Thomas Jackson has worked preserving information about the history of Queens – particularly that of the North West section. He now serves as the Secretary of the Greater Astoria Historical Society (GAHS) and treasurer of the Bowne house, a landmark from the 1600s.
&#8220I'm interested in history, and both of these organizations have something about the history of Queens to tell,” Jackson said. &#8220I got involved in the Bowne House because I went there once and was fascinated by the place, and since working there I have become even more fascinated by the place.”
Jackson is the former vice president of the GAHS and also worked as the assistant treasurer of Sony Corporation. The GAHS credits Jackson with with a major role in developing their web site.
Residence: After living in Astoria for 16 years, Astoria moved to Manhattan. However he is originally from the Midwest, and his family still resides in Missouri.

Education: Jackson received a Bachelors of Science from the University of Arkansas, a Masters in Business Administration from New York University and a Ph.D. in Physics from New York University
Jackson also co-wrote two books that include historical information and images of Queens.

Local Concern: Jackson said he is concerned about the current rezoning occurring in Queens.
&#8220Huge developments are planned. There can't be a 15-story building on every street.” A deeper look into the area needs to be taken to prevent any unnecessary demolition.
