American Legion distributes 300 turkey dinners to vets and needy

By Bobby Ciafardini

Home cooked meals go a long way during the holiday season, especially for those in need and those returning from the hard-fought war in Iraq.

Just ask members of the Theodore Korony American Legion Post No. 253, who for the 11th straight year transported 300 cooked turkey dinners to neighboring veterans organizations as well as shelters in support of the troops who returned from battle and homeless in the borough looking for a fresh start on life.

On Thursday, December 22, volunteers from the Korony Post assembled in front of their headquarters at 241 Longstreet Avenue, awaiting the arrival of a delivery truck with the turkey dinners, which are boxed with gravy and all the trimmings like stuffing and cranberry sauce. Upon delivery, the volunteers unloaded the truck into their own cars and vans and traveled to various locations to deliver the packages.
