The bus that struck Long, 39, was owned by Allen AME Transportation, a company affiliated with the Jamaica-based Allen AME Church, according to the Rev. Edwin Reed, the church's chief financial officer.Long was struck at 52nd Street and Third Avenue in Manhattan back on Dec. 22 while on his way to work on Randall's Island.Fire Department spokesman David Billig said Long has “a host of injuries that still are going to require lots of medical attention.”He said the firefighter was scheduled to have surgery Tuesday, but he could not confirm that it took place.Long, a 12-1/2-year veteran of the Fire Department, is the son of Michael Long, the state chairman of the Conservative Party.Billig said Long has been bleeding internally as a result of his injuries, but doctors at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center had stopped it. He said that while the firefighter will be required to stay in the hospital for some time, he is being strong.”He's got a long road ahead of him, but he's holding his own,” Billig said of Long.The driver of the bus, Bryant Barr of Albany, was ticketed for making an illegal right turn, according to published reports. The bus was to shuttle employees of the investment banking firm Bear Stearns to the company's offices during the third day of the transit strike.
