Truck carrying gasoline catches fire on BQE

By Scott Sieber

Police called in a Level 3 mobilization in response to the fire, which completely shut down the highway in both directions after a temporary bridge that was under construction collapsed due to the flames, BNN reported.

Nearby streets were evacuated from the area and the No. 7 train and Amtrak lines were also shut down, according to BNN.

BNN reported that the driver made it out of the truck before the fire started.

Damage to surrounding infrastructure may prove to be an issue, reported BNN, because of reports that gasoline had begun to leak into the sewer system and smoke had started to rise from surrounding manholes.

Firefighters continued to fight the blaze with foam operations, reported the network.
