9 small secondary schools to open

The Bronx will welcome nine new small secondary schools in 2006.

On Wednesday, February 1, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Joel Klein announced the opening of 36 new small secondary schools, including nine in the borough. The schools are designed to provide students with high-quality educational options, Bloomberg said.

The nine schools in the Bronx include the Academy of Applied Mathematics and Technology, a middle school at 345 Brook Avenue; Aspire Preparatory School, a middle school at 2441 Wallace Avenue; Bronx Early College Academy for Teaching and Learning, a middle school and high school at 3223 Independence Avenue; Bronx Green Middle School at 2441 Wallace Avenue; Dreamyard Preparatory School, a high school at 240 East 172nd Street; Holcombe L. Rucker School of Community Research, a high school at 918 Eagle Avenue; International High School at 968 Cauldwell Avenue; International School for Liberal Arts, a middle school and high school at 2780 Reservoir Avenue and Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts, a middle school and high school at 339 Morris Avenue.
