Through a free peer counseling computer clinic, over 150 seniors learned that choosing the right prescription drug plan could be the difference between spending and saving thousands of dollars.
On Thursday, January 19, dozens of seniors cut costs on their own prescription drug expenses in a peer tutorial on Medicare Part D plans at the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club, Castle Hill Unit at 625 Castle Hill Avenue. Using a Medicare plan finder tool developed by Older Adults Technology Services (OATS), senior instructors guided fellow seniors, helping them to select the right Medicare Part D plans.
Councilwoman Annabel Palma, who helped create the program in the borough, and Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club executive director, were on hand for the event. During the clinic, a customized list of plans allowed seniors to make informed decisions about the most affordable prescription drug coverage that is right for them. The program stressed the need for Medicare recipients to select their plan before the May 15 deadline and has been conducted in Palma
