I couldn’t agree more with your article on the ridiculous costs that NYC and the Department of Education will incur with the implementing of the new contract and the increase in tutoring time for children. In typical NYC/DOE fashion that hardest, most ridiculous plan has been adopted.
Let me suggest an easier, less costly idea. Do away with the President’s week vacation, start school after Labor day as usual which will add five days of true instruction because no one has any idea of what will be done on the two pre-Labor Days anyway. Who needs a break after less than two months after a winter break anyway? This plan will save money with a minimal sense of disruption in the lives of children, parents, teachers, etc. Makes too much sense so there is no way it will be implemented, but it is worth suggesting.
