Hon. Robert T. Groh, jurist and Queens Library trustee

Hon. Robert T. Groh passed away on February 27 following an illness. He was 90 years old. A funeral Mass was held on March 3 at St. Anastasia Roman Catholic Church in Douglaston, with interment at Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing.
Judge Groh served on the Queens Library Board of Trustees for 44 years, from his appointment by Mayor Wagner in 1962 until his death. He served as the Board’s president in 1970 and 1971.
Judge Groh was the Deputy Borough President of Queens from 1969 to 1974. He was the Commissioner of Sanitation of the City of New York and was later elected to the Civil Court of New York City and the Supreme Court of the State of New York, where he served from 1981 until his retirement in 1991. He then served as Acting Justice of the Village of Quogue and Acting Justice of the Village of Westhampton Beach.
Judge Groh was very involved in his community. He served on the Board of United Cerebral Palsy of Queens for more than 40 years, in addition to his involvement with Queens Library. He was a long-time resident of Little Neck, and retired to Quogue during his last few years.
In making the announcement, Queens Library Board President Leonard D’Amico and Library Director Thomas W. Galante said, “Judge Groh was a tireless supporter of libraries. His wisdom and leadership will be sorely missed.”
