Mothers Against Guns celebrates 12th anniversary

During the past 12 years, our organization has gained international attention for its mission against gun violence. All too often, we are reminded of these senseless, cruel and brutal acts. Though it is not our intention to violate the 2nd amendment of anyone, it is our mission to keep guns out of the hands of our youth, and others with criminal intent.
Though New York has some of the strongest firearms laws on the books, gun violence in this city and across the nation continues to wreak havoc on the lives of our law-abiding citizens. It’s time that we all unite to stop this madness. We, the people must get involved, and not wait until it hits home. It’s time to say “enough is enough.”
Though many may say there is really nothing that we can do about it, I beg to differ. Gun violence is a preventable and unnecessary evil in our society, and all of us must ask ourselves what we can do to prevent it. Most gun-related crimes are committed by our youth, and against our youth. Sadly, many of our youth are products of a society that has placed high expectations on them without instilling in them the real values of life: faith, love, family, respect and education. These values begin in the home, and once we observe a deviation from these values, it’s our responsibility to take action.
My friends — as parents, family, friends, guardians, clergy, and educators — it’s time to step up to the plate and reclaim our youth and others that we know are self-destructing. All of us know or suspect what our loved ones are doing, and it’s time to intervene. It’s time to get involved if we really want to stop the gun violence, drug addiction and gang violence. It’s never too late to do the right thing.
We all know that drug addiction can cause one to commit a crime to support their habit. We all know that gang members can and will commit crimes during the initiation for gang membership, and we all know that most drug addicts and gang members often commit their crimes by brandishing a firearm! Intervention in most cases will prevent these cruel and brutal acts of gun violence that we face daily.
My dear friends, on March 4th, we will be celebrating our “12th Year Anniversary” and I ask you to join us in our mission against gun violence. For more information please call us at (718) 276-5802, and visit our website at www.mothersagainstguns.org.
