Councilwoman Melinda Katz was honored as “Woman of the World” at the 3rd annual awards ceremony hosted by the Bukharian Jewish Congress & Center of the U.S.A. and Canada. Katz (right) was given the award by American Congress of Russian Jews Executive Director Lenny Brand (left) and the Bukharian Jewish Congress because they believe she is a strong role model for women. Her success as a leader in the community, her independence, dedication to fighting for women’s issues, and her determination to overcome adversities facing women made her a candidate for this prestigious award. “I am truly honored to receive this award because it was presented to me by individuals I myself admire,” said Katz. “It is important for women to recognize the achievements we have made and the important role we play in today’s society. I want to humbly thank everyone for their kindness and their thoughtfulness for presenting me with the ‘Woman of the World’ award at this year’s ceremony.”
