Take the train to the game

As the New York Mets take the field this summer, more than 2,000 parking spaces will disappear due to the construction of their new stadium.
The Mets are urging that fans take mass transit to Shea Stadium.
Over the course of the next four weeks, demolition and construction at the northern corner of Roosevelt Avenue and 126th Street — directly behind the center field wall of Shea — will eradicate 2,000 spaces.
Taking mass transit to the games will be even more important as the work progresses over the next four years, when approximately 3,000 of the more than 8,000 parking spots will be lost.
In order to make getting to the game less stressful, the Mets urge fans to take the No. 7 Flushing line subway or the Long Island Rail Road to Shea.
They have launched a campaign on their website, begun advertising their take the train to the game advisory, and have even purchased Metro Cards that will be sold to fans at Shea.
Additionally, the MTA and the LIRR have agreed to increase service, including adding more cars and better safety.
Currently, only 4 percent of game-goers take the LIRR, while 20 percent take the subway.
