CAMPAIGN 2006 Peralta RUNS on his record

Jos Peralta was first elected to the New York State Assembly in District 39 in 2002 and has since been working for the community that he lives in.
Peralta, a resident of Queens for more than two decades, is a graduate of Queens College, where he was an active participant in student government. Following his graduation, Peralta began working in politics as a community liaison for Assemblyman Brian McLaughlin. He also formerly worked as the Director of the Commission on Dignity for Immigrants at the New York City Labor Council.
&#8220All my life I've been in public service,” he said, adding that he wanted the chance to make a difference.
During his years as an Assemblyman, Peralta said that he has had many proud accomplishments, including getting Operation Impact in the area and bringing in the Guardian Angels. Each year for the last three years, Operation Impact has brought 70 more police officers to District 39.
&#8220I think people are feeling safer in the neighborhood because of these two programs,” Peralta said.
Also among Peralta's positive changes within the community have been creating an economic development center, successful business outreach center and providing more affordable health care. He also said that money has been invested in area infrastructures, including $1.5 million for trains, and that he was able to get the DOE Fund into the area to help clean the streets.
Peralta also said that he has increased school funding and senior center funding.
&#8220I'm really proud of the record that I accomplished,” he said. &#8220I stand by it.”
However, he said that there is still more he wants to do for the district. Among his priorities are providing an after-school center, &#8220one stop shop” for immigration services and a health clinic that focuses on women's issues.
Other organizations that Peralta is involved in include the Northside Democratic Club, New Century Democratic Club, JFK Democratic Club, Dominican American Society, Gran Alliance of Queens, Dominican American Hispanic Congress, Community Board 3, Inter-American Political and Civic Parliament and Local 153 OPEIU.
