While many city residents will be traveling on vacation in August, Queens is really the place to be with a series of high-profile events including music and cultural festivals, street fairs, exciting baseball games, championship tennis and a host of other fun activities.
The Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) along with the Queens Borough President's Office and other community organizations are promoting upcoming events as part of a campaign called Discover Queens.
Some of the events include: Latino performances at the JP Morgan Chase Latino Cultural Festival at the Queens Theatre in the Park from July 26-August 6; Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival August 12 and 13; the first-place New York Mets at Shea Stadium throughout all of August, and the final Grand Slam event of the tennis season, with the U.S. Open taking place from August 28-September 10.
