Senator John Sabini, who is running for re-election, received the endorsement of several Latino leaders, including Assemblyman Jos Peralta, Senators Martin Malave Dilan and Jose Serrano, Councilman Erik Martin Dilan, Democratic Leader at Large Francisco Moya, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, Jr. and Assemblyman Adriano Espaillat, among others. Peralta said, &#8220The bottom line is that Senator Sabini has been there for us, been here for the Latinos and he will continue to be here for the Latinos.”
Ellen Young, candidate for Assembly in the 22nd District, announced that she has received the endorsement of SEIU Local 32BJ.
Councilman Hiram Monserrate, who is running for the 13th District Senate seat, has been endorsed by former Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer. Ferrer said, &#8220Hiram Monserrate's record of reform and results means the days are numbered for the status quo in Albany. I am proud to support Hiram in his effort to bring proactive, effective leadership to Albany.”
On Monday, August 28, Councilmember John Liu campaigned with gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer outside of the Flushing subway station. They were joined by Ellen Young, who is a candidate for the State Assembly in the 22nd District.
The Citizens Union released its list of preferred candidates for the upcoming primaries, including Eliot Spitzer for Governor, Andrew Cuomo for Attorney General, and Senator John Sabini for re-election in the 13th Senate District and Terence Park for the Assembly seat in the 22nd District.
Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, who is running for Governor of New York State, has been endorsed by the League of Conservation Voters. The organization's executive director, Marcia Bystryn, said, &#8220We are confident that, as governor, Eliot Spitzer will demonstrate the same environmental commitment he has shown as attorney general.”
Assemblyman Jos Peralta, who is running for re-election in the 39th District, hosted a book drive, along with the JCI Hispanic Chapter of New York, to collect books and school supplies for the Aminta Reyes School in the Dominican Republic.
Senator John Sabini received endorsements from African-American leaders for his campaign for re-election. The leaders giving their support included State Senate Minority Leader David A. Paterson, City Comptroller William C. Thompson, Jr., former Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields, Queens Borough President Helen Marshall, Assemblymembers Jeffrion Aubry and Keith L.T. Wright, State Senators Malcolm A. Smith, Carl Andrews and Kevin S. Parker and Reverend Floyd H. Flake.
During a recent press conference, James Bena, president of the Democratic Organization of Flushing, and Richard Jannaccio, president of the West Flushing Civic Association, gave their personal endorsements to Terence Park for the 22nd Assembly District. Bena said, &#8220I feel he is the best candidate for this position. I feel this gentleman has done so much for this community…”
Rory Lancman, a candidate for Assembly in the 25th District, received the endorsements of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association and Uniformed Firefighters Association. In his endorsement letter, UFA president Stephen Cassidy said, &#8220The firefighters of this city are confident that you will be an asset to the residents in your district. New York's Bravest support your effort and are behind you 100%.”
Assembly candidate Ellen Young announced that she received the endorsement of Assemblyman Vito J. Lopez, who is the chairman of the New York State Assembly Housing Committee.
