Reduced MetroCards coming to seniors

Seniors who want to save money on public transportation should be on the look out for special MetroCard buses and vans around Queens during the month of October.
The New York City Transit has announced that during their scheduled stops in front of senior centers, shopping centers and major bus routes senior citizens and persons with disabilities can apply for the Reduced Fare MetroCard to help them save time and money.
These buses and vans will also be there to help senior citizens and persons with disabilities refill their current reduced fare MetroCards.
The dates, locations and times of some of the remaining Queens stops are:
• 10/20 on Main Street and Roosevelt Avenue from 8 to 11 a.m.
• 10/20 at Queens Center for Progress at 81-15 164th Street, off Goethals Avenue from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
• 10/23 on 31st Street at Ditmars Boulevard, Between Ditmars Boulevard & 23rd Avenue, near the N train from 7:30 to 10:00 a.m.
• 10/23 at Bay Terrace Shopping Center, Bell Boulevard and 24th Avenue from 9 to 11 a.m.
• 10/23 at Fresh Meadows Shopping Center, 188th Street and Horace Harding Expressway from noon to 2:30 p.m.
• 10/25 at the Clearview Assistance Program of Clearview Gardens, 163-59 17th Avenue at 166th Street from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
• 10/25 at Glen Oaks Shopping Center, Union Turnpike, near 260th Street from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
• 10/25 at Middle Village Senior Center, 69-10 75th Street from 10 a.m. to noon.
• 10/31 at Queens Borough President Office, 120-55 Queens Boulevard from 10 a.m. to noon.
In order for seniors to be eligible for the Reduced Fare MetroCards, they must present a photo identification stating that they are at least 65 years old.
Persons with disabilities must have a valid U.S. Medicare Card (Red, White and Blue) along with a valid federal/state issued photo identification card in order to be immediately processed.
Disabled persons without Medicare cards must ensure that their doctors complete the physician's section of the application. After a review process, permanent Reduced Fare MetroCards will be mailed to qualified applicants.
