Councilmember Leroy Comrie hosted his fifth annual Holiday Senior Luncheon on Friday, December 15 at Thomasina’s Catering Hall, where over 200 local senior citizens were feted.
This year’s celebration featured entertainment by the Walter Kelly Trio jazz band, as well as holiday caroling from the Jamaica NAACP Daycare Choir and the Humanities & the Arts Magnet High School choir. The event was co-sponsored by Touchstone Health and American Recycling.
“Indeed, it is a true indicator of a community when you look at how their elders are treated,” said Comrie. “Today our community pays tribute and respect to the elders whom have paved the way for our growth and prosperity. I am grateful for the opportunity to be able to use my office as a conduit to celebrate the holidays with them today and will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that senior citizen centers are fully-funded, prescription drugs are made affordable and protect our seniors from predatory lenders.”
In addition to the wonderful lunch, additional entertainment was provided by the poetry of Ma Ruth Bell and singing by Roosevelt Graham.
