Police need help to ID beaten man

The New York Police Department (NYPD) is asking for help to identify a man in critical condition after he was severely beaten in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park on Christmas Day.
The man, who is Asian, suffered severe head wounds during the attack, which happened while he was riding his bike near the park's famous Unisphere, police said. Police don't know if the attackers, who pummeled the man with punches and kicks, robbed him too.
On Wednesday, December 27, a spokesperson for Elmhurst Hospital Center said that the man's condition had not improved since the time he had been admitted to the hospital after the 6:40 p.m. attack. The hospital is asking anyone with information about the man to call 718-334-1819 or 718-334-5125.
Cops are hoping that when the man awakens he will be able to tell them who he is and identify his attackers, who have been described as two Hispanic men who fled the park on bicycles after beating their victim.
Police are also investigating whether the attack was connected to any of eight other robberies and attacks in and around the park within the last month, beginning with a the assault and robbery of a 38-year-old Hispanic man at 111th Street and 48th Avenue on Wednesday, November 22 as he walked alone in the park.
Two days later a 54-year-old Asian man was beaten and robbed by several men, and about a week later, a 62-year-old Hispanic man was assaulted and robbed by two Hispanic men. Both of these men had been riding their bicycles when they were attacked.
One other bicyclist - a 62-year-old Asian man - was also attacked and robbed on Sunday, December 24 as he rode his bike in Flushing Meadow-Corona Park.
The other incidents that are being investigated are two attacks on men walking alone in the park and the assault and robbery of one man walking nearby - at 111th Street and 52nd Avenue.
The only victim of the nine not assaulted was a 55-year-old woman, who was robbed at the corner of 111th Street and 48th Avenue at 8 a.m.
Because the nine total victims varied in age and race, police believe that the attacks are not bias crimes.
Descriptions of the suspects for the nine attacks also vary but all of the muggings are being investigated for possible connections because of their location and time of day - eight of the attacks happened between 5:30 and 11:30 p.m. In addition, all of the victims were traveling alone when they were accosted.
&#8220We are certainly going to pay more attention to the park,” said a police spokesperson.
The police have beefed up their presence in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park with officers on foot and in vehicles patrolling the 1,255-acre park. Anyone with information about the attacks is asked to call Crime Stoppers at
1-800-577-TIPS.
