Private party turns into stabbing melee

Three men were stabbed outside 136-31 41st Avenue, Flushing, on Sunday December 10. Police responding to the scene of the incident arrested two Manhattan men, Steven Chan, of 14 Monroe Street and Robert Wu of 20 West 115th Street. Both men were charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon.
The stabbing, which police described as, &#8220not racially motivated,” took place outside a private party. According to Police Officer Kelly Glennon, Community Affairs Officer at the 109th Precinct a group of men had been at a club and then tried to enter a party being held at 136-31 41 Avenue. The men were denied access and an argument ensued. Other police sources indicated that the gatecrashers left at that point, but returned later with 10-15 of their friends.
Another fight broke out and again, according to Officer Glennon, a Hispanic male, 37, was stabbed nine times in the neck and chest and another man aged 41 was stabbed 8 times. By Officer Glennon's account a third man, also Hispanic and 53 years old was hit over the head with a hammer.
There is some confusion however, as two of the men described their attackers as using a broken bottle, despite a bloody hammer being found at the scene along with the broken knife. The 53-year-old victim, who police sources believe to be the most likely victim to have be hit over the head with the hammer, had tried to help his friends by breaking up the fight when he was struck. Following the attacks, the perpetrators fled.
The police were then called and soon arrived at the scene. While being questioned, partygoers directed police attention to an Asian man who they alleged was one of the perpetrators. Apparently, he had lost his wallet during the attack and had returned to try to retrieve it.
All three victims were taken to New York Hospital where, according to police, they are all listed in a stable condition. New York Hospital Queens would not confirm that the men had been admitted, or provide information regarding their condition.
