For the second straight year, the 45th Precinct released the names and addresses of non-juveniles arrested for graffiti-related crimes in the past 12 months, and once again the list suggests that the recent upswing in vandalism has come at the hands of local youth.
In total, the precinct made 52 graffiti arrests in 2006. The 45th Precinct list, provided to the Bronx Times Reporter earlier this month, included 23 accused vandals aged 16 or over. Together they were responsible for 26 of the arrests since three youths were arrested twice.
Eighteen of the 23, or nearly four out of five, live within the 45th Precinct, most of them in Throggs Neck and Pelham Bay. Many live within blocks of the sites they were caught vandalizing.
