With league play almost concluded, the PSAL Alternative High School League is preparing for the upcoming 2007 playoff and championship round with one Bronx school appearing to be the favorites to walk away with the crown.
As it stands right now, both Marcy Avenue Campus and Bronx Regional High School are standing on the top of the heap in the A Division, both sporting 8-1 records.
The two schools have tasted the title in the past. Bronx Regional High School won the title two years in a row (2003-04 and 2004-05) while Marcy Avenue Campus ended that streak with a championship win last season.
Both are embroiled in an exciting rivalry with both teams sporting wins over one another and heading into a possible deciding rubber match game that could either result in Marcy Avenue Campus retaining their crown or Bronx Regional High School reclaiming their title.
Earlier this year, after opening the season with an exciting 70 to 58 victory over Satellite Academy and then crushing University Heights 76 to 37, Bronx Regional High School ran into a roadblock, losing to Marcy Avenue Campus, 79 to 67, off of dominating performances by Antoine Bryant (19 points), Bernard Brown (19 points) and Mike Davis (16 points, 12 rebounds).
That would be the only game Bronx Regional High School would lose. In the rematch between the two teams later in the season, the Bronx school would get their revenge in a tightly contested battle that saw Marcy Avenue Campus fall 73 to 69, thanks in part to Scott Sterling
