Bridget Edwards, a resident of Dorie Miller, at 112-30 Northern Blvd., wanted her co-op association to be informed about the project. She was one of about two dozen residents of the complex who attended a meeting held by Community Board 3 last Thursday.”How could this issue of redevelopment happen and we don't know anything about it?” Edwards asked during the meeting at IS 227 Louis Armstrong Middle School, at 32-02 Junction Blvd., in East Elmhurst.They were reacting to a proposal to demolish the building at 112-01 Northern Blvd. and replace it with a 10-story building possibly with a 130-room Marriott Hotel, with additional residential dwellings and medical offices. The lot is currently occupied by the two-story American Auto Associates building that was slated for demolition, according to the city Department of Buildings Web site.There were no new construction plans available by Tuesday on that site.Edwards said elected officials often visit the co-ops for votes and now she wanted the political leaders to be responsive to their wishes.”We want redevelopment, yes, but we have to look at how,” she said. “We are opposed to having the hotel there.”Borough President Helen Marshall, who lives in Corona, spoke against the plan at the board meeting as well.Her spokesman Dan Andrews said “she was absolutely opposed to it.” She has asked the developer to come in and meet with her to discuss the plan, although he did not offer specifics on what she would like changed.Attempts to contact the owner, listed as HBC Corona LLC, were unsuccessful.A Marriott spokesman referred calls to Marshall's office and the developer.Reach reporter Adam Pincus by e-mail at news@timesledger.com or by phone at 718-229-0300, Ext. 154.
