As they await a sizeable state grant to redevelop acres of polluted property in the Bronx, organizers of the South Bronx Waterfront Brownfield Opportunity Area kicked off their first visioning process on Wednesday, February 7, at the Point Community Development Corp.
The state BOA program, created in 2003 and administered by the Department of Environmental Conservation, provides grants to assist communities develop blighted land into productive areas while restoring environmental quality.
What makes the South Bronx Waterfront BOA unique from the other 52 current projects is the sponsorship by five nonprofits: Youth Ministries for Peace and Justice, the Point, Sustainable South Bronx, the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp. and the Pratt Center for Community Development.
