Maltese honors Kidz Care volunteers

On Thursday, February 16, Kidz Care Junior and Senior Board Members received proclamations from Senator Serphin Maltese for their dedication and service to the Forest Hills community.
Gabrielle Sfera, a Community Assistant in Maltese’s office and Shaaker Bhuiyan, Director of Constituent Services and Special Projects presented the kids with certificates of appreciation from the Senator.
Kidz Care is a not-for-profit civic association for youngsters six to 16 years-old, aimed to give children a vehicle to perform volunteer services, help each child build self-pride and give them an appreciation for ethnic and cultural diversity within the neighborhood.
Throughout the year, the group organizes and participates in a number of projects including beautifying the community, flower planting, shoveling snow for seniors, and graffiti removal.
The organization began in May of 2004 with 10 children and has grown dramatically to nearly 130 members today.
The junior board members run the organization themselves, following its charter and by-laws, implementing its projects with a minimum of adult assistance in order to foster education, maturity and leadership.
