The Queens Library has renovated 12 branches throughout the borough in the past seven months at a total cost of $8.8 million. The Pomonok branch renovation was partially underwritten by City Councilman James Gennaro (D-Fresh Meadows), who allocated $140,000 from his discretionary fund for the renovation project.Children from PS 200 sang “America the Beautiful” after Queens Library President Thomas Galante spoke briefly about the improvements to the facility. “We want to give kids the rudiments they need, give them the educational materials and opportunities,” said Gennaro.The library now has RFID check-out stations for books, a new computer and plasma television, enhanced multimedia capabilities, and new carpeting and paint. State Assemblywoman Nettie Mayersohn (D-Flushing) called dibs on the new computer.”If I get here first, I'm getting it,” she said to the PS 200 children sitting next to the lectern.”We are so pleased at the reopening of the Pomonok branch. It's the fourth of six branches in Community Board 8 to be rehabilitated,” said Marc Haken, CB 8's library chairman.
