Parks & Recreation has partnered with The Queens Courier for a photo contest that will help capture images of the various parks in the borough.
“A Salute to Queens Parks Photography Contest” will be taking submissions from amateur photographers through September 4. Photographers that are selected as winners, which will be announced on September 30, will be printed in The Queens Courier and “A Salute to Queens Parks: A Photo Book,” and will be exhibited at the Queens Museum of Art and the Arsenal Gallery.
“Queens is a borough of diversity - you can see it in its people, its neighborhoods…and its parks. We are eager to see the parks through the lens of the community - the park users themselves,” said Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski. “The photographs are sure to reflect the beauty and diversity for which the borough is so proud. We thank The Queens Courier for sponsoring this exciting project.”
One winner will be selected from each of the three age groups, which are youth (12 and under), teen (13 to 17) and adult (18 and up.)
Entered photographs are required to have been taken in a Queens park, playground or a facility that is operated by Parks. They can also be taken at events sponsored by Parks & Recreation.
Photos will be judged by experts in photography, art and parks in four separate categories. They are black and white, people, nature/landscape and places/landmarks.
“The Queens Courier looks forward to honoring photographers that can capture the beauty of Queens’ parks and their surrounding environment. Our borough is home to some of the city’s best parks,” Associate Publisher Josh Schneps said. “Through exposure in our newspaper and exhibitions at Queens Museum of Art and the Arsenal Gallery, we will recognize and bring attention to all that Queens has to offer.”
