Richmond Hill ushers in the new year

Despite the bitter cold of late winter, Richmond Hill residents came out on Sunday, March 4 to celebrate Phagwah, the Indo-Caribbean Hindu celebration of the new year. Every spring, the Sunday after the first full moon of the Hindu calendar, Phagwah literally paints the streets as kids and families “color” one another with dye and powder and chase away the winter grays. The Richmond Hill parade is the biggest Indo-Caribbean Hindu celebration in North America.
