Christ the King officially says she is sick. Her mother says she slipped on a handbill in front of their house and hurt her back. The truth of the matter is unmistakable: Sky Lindsay is not attending high school or playing basketball these days.
Lindsay, Christ the King’s leading scorer, was absent from the team’s two playoff games last week, and was not in school, either, dating back to last Wednesday, March 7th. “I don’t know, I haven’t heard,” CK Coach Bob Mackey said of her status. “School got a call on Wednesday that she would be out sick.”
As per school rules, even if the St. John’s-bound guard, who was averaging 17.2 points and 7.8 rebounds this year, had shown up for either the CHSAA Brooklyn/Queens semifinal or championship game, she wouldn’t have been allowed to suit up because she had not attended classes on those days.
According to published reports, Lindsay quit the team over a conflict with the coaching staff. But her mother, Amelia Lindsay, told The New York Daily News, “She slipped on a flyer buried under the snow, fell and sprained her back on the steps on Wednesday morning. She’s taking medication every four hours.”
Lindsay’s backcourt mate, Lorin Dixon, was under the impression she was sick. The two have not talked since last week. “We’re waiting for her to come back,” Dixon said.
