Two new facilities opened recently at The Shops at Atlas Park which will address the needs of shoppers’ bodies and “spirits.”
The New York Sports Clubs officially opened their fitness center with a ribbon-cutting by John Epifanio, development manager for parent corporation Town Sports International, and City Councilmember Dennis Gallagher, who called it “a magnificent addition to the neighborhood.”
The 26,000-square-foot complex was designed by a noted architectural firm in the field, Fabiano Design & Associates. The state-of-the-art center has all the latest exercise equipment one would expect, some with personal viewing screens.
Cycling is in an enclosed studio, workouts in another, and there is a “Mind/Body Studio,” decorated in dark wood, stone and muted light and colors, for Pilates and Yoga. Instructors hold over 40 classes a week.
Another feature is the “Express Line,” a supervised, 22-minute strength-program on eight different Nautilus machines. According to spokesperson Lisa Hufcurt, “When coupled with a half-hour of cardio work, it gives you a total body workout in under an hour.
There’s a “Kids Playroom” with a dedicated staff, all trained in infant and child CPR. The locker rooms have saunas and long-term rentals. There is even a refreshment bar operated by Amazon Café, with “the good stuff” to eat and drink.
Across the Atlas Park campus, around the corner from the Amish Market and Dahlia’s flower shop, you will find Rosetta Wines & Spirits.
Owner Shane Doyle says he decided to retail wine and spirits “in an atmosphere reminiscent of the old curiosity shop.”
Indeed, his selection of fine distilled spirits - over 1,000 domestic and imported wines - knowledgeable staff and weekly free tastings afford an opportunity for many pleasant discoveries.
There is something for everyone - even an alcohol-free wine. Good selections of kosher, organic and sulfite-free wines are available, as well as offerings from every continent except Antarctica. Long Island is well represented, as are the upstate regions.
Wine selections range in price from a $7.99 Italian red, to the top-shelf Chateau Lafitte Rothschild of 1999, at $399.99 per bottle.
Doyle fell in love with the setting when he discovered the space in Atlas Park and the convenience of western Queens. Customers will love Rosetta Wines and Spirits.
