Senator Frank Padavan (right) recently recognized Bayside native Catherine Coulaz (left) with the New York Senate Achievers’ Award, given to a person who overcomes personal physical challenges to benefit the community. “Disabilities can cripple a person emotionally or physically, but with this award we recognize those who overcome the difficulties posed by their disabilities and persevere. Catherine is most certainly one of those people,” Padavan said.
Coulaz, who has mild mental retardation, participates every year in the Queens Center for Progress (QCP) Annual Walk-A-Thon, volunteers at the Jamaica Service Program for Older Adults Conlon Center frequently, and works with the Meals on Wheels program every Friday.
