Queens residents, looking for an interesting buy over the summer months, might be able to find it from one of the 200 participants in the Community Flea Market, which is being hosted by York College beginning June 3.
The flea market will include 200 vendors, merchants, artists, craftsmen and international foods. It will take place every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“You can’t forget the artistic community. The flea market exists to support the grassroots community to bring out the talent of locals, and supply mom and pop businesses before big business comes into the area,” said Shante Traynham, the CEO of Community Flea Market. “The Community Flea Market is a well-rounded location complete with food stands, farm produce, quality merchandise such as clothing, collectibles, housewares, handbags and other goods, and music.”
The mission of the flea market, which is being done along with Shaya Designs, Inc., the United Caribbean Congress and Kings of Kings, is “to create a broad spectrum of roles uniting culture, art, music, education and merchandising.”
During the June 3 opening, Community Flea Market attendees will be able to meet Todd and Lance Feurtado of Kings of Kings.
Admission to the flea market is free. The cost of renting vendor space begins at $40.
The Community Flea Market will be held in York College’s lot between South Road and Liberty Avenue. The campus is located at 94-20 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in Jamaica.
