Free fitness fun in area parks

Go out and get fit with your family while enjoying the borough’s beautiful parks. The New York City Parks & Recreation Department is sending their Mobile Fitness Van to a park near you to help your whole family to lose weight and stay healthy.
Among the free programs Parks are offering include various activities such as, Boogie Woogie Weight Loss, Wake Up and Stretch, Body Conditioning and Yoga, Boot Camp Abs and Hula Hooping Your Abs Away designed to make fitness enjoyable.
City Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe has built a legacy of bringing fitness programs outdoors like his citywide walking program, Step Out. This program allowed participants to enjoy the sights of the city while getting in shape.
The Mobile Fitness Van is scheduled to visit the follow Queens parks and hold the following free fitness program from through August 24.

  • On Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. Boogie Woogie Weight Loss will be held at O’Donohue Park on Beach 17th Street, and from 3 to 4 p.m. enjoy the Body Conditioning and Yoga program at Kissena Park on 164th Street and Oak Avenue.
  • On Thursdays from 9 to 10 a.m. Wake Up and Stretch will take place at Rockaway Beach on Beach 116th Street, and from 9 to 10 a.m. enjoy the Boot Camp Abs program at Windmuller Park at 39th Drive and 54th Street.
  • On Tuesdays and Thursdays Wake Up and Stretch will take place from 7 to 8 a.m. at Roy Wilkins Park at 117th Street and Baisley Boulevard, and then from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. have fun trying to Hula Hoop Your Abs away at Astoria Park.
