Gioia speaks at Jefferson Dem Club

City Councilmember Eric Gioia (second right) was the featured speaker at the June meeting of the Jefferson Democratic Club of Flushing. Gioia told the crowd about his road to elected office, and his recent battle to reform the “Food Stamp” program. Gioia recently attempted to eat for a week on $28 - the government food allowance.
The club normally meets on the first Thursday of the month in the American Legion Hall at 198-09 33rd Avenue.
Among those attending were, from left, club president John Frank, Democratic district leader and Douglaston attorney James J. Wrynn and Assemblymember Ann-Margaret Carrozza.
The club is next scheduled to meet on July 14, for a different sort of battle - a softball game against local Republicans, at Alley Pond Park.
