P.S. 7, an elementary school in Elmhurst, participated in the Penny Harvest Festival again this past year. Kindergarten through third grade students filled more than 25 canvas sacks full of pennies and, after convening a Roundtable Committee - comprised of 10 third grade students who were each nominated by their classroom teacher - agreed to allocate the $1,000 collected to the Ozanam Hall Nursing Home of Queens. This contribution will be used specifically for flowers to be planted around the nursing home, two new fish for the fish tank, and a park bench with a “P.S. 7” plaque to be placed outside for the residents to enjoy on bright, sunny days. The students visited on Tuesday, May 29 to see how the residents are enjoying the gifts.
