Fire safety awareness saves lives

State Senator Serphin R. Maltese (left) met with members of the Ridgewood Older Adult Center who attended a Fire Safety Awareness Day that he sponsored recently.
Todd Belton of the New York City Fire Department’s Safety Education Unit conducted the program, which provided information to nearly 200 Ridgewood area residents on common fire hazards, proper use of a fire extinguisher, installation and maintenance of smoke detectors and critical evacuation skills. Everyone who attended received a free First Alert Smoke Detector and Carbon Monoxide Alarm.
