Peter Calvacca, a 60-year resident of Bayside, passed away recently in Inverness, Florida from heart failure. He was 82 years old.
A retired engineer/architect, he was instrumental in renovating Flushing Town Hall.
Calvacca graduated from Cooper Union in 1946 and served as Chief Engineer for Haines Lundberg & Whaler until he retired following the death of his wife in 1990. Shortly thereafter, Calvacca was asked to assist the Town Hall renovations by then-director, the late Jo Ann Jones.
He quickly took charge and spearheaded and oversaw all aspects of the massive undertaking. For his efforts, he was recognized and honored at the newly renovated Town Hall Grand Opening Gala in 1999 by then-Borough President Claire Shulman.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Calvacca-Iannece, an attorney; his son-in-law, Jerry Iannece, attorney and former Chair of Community Board # 11; and his two grandchildren, Vincent Peter Iannece, a senior and honor student at St Francis Prep, and Elena Iannece, an 8th grade honor student at M.S. 74.
Arrangements were handled by Frederick’s Funeral Home in Flushing. A Mass was held at St Mel’s R.C. Church.
